Bill Poole's Third Coyote

Jeff and I went out in January for the Arizona Predator Callers/Phoenix Varmit Callers/Southern AZ Calling club 3-Club Hunt.

We were down near Oracle, in zone 37b, and we musta called in 8 of the things on both sides of the rd from Florence to Oracle.

The first one, I pulled the gun high, I conciously remember seeing the crosshairs way off the yote, who lived to see another day.

Finally, he called one in, Jeff was way off to my right and Me and Billy were sittin' under a tree, we saw the thing across a little depression, maybe 100 or 150 yds off. I fired, it flipped up and hobbled around, so I fired again, and again, finally it stopped moving for a while, then it got up and started moving again. I fired a few more times, finally the Rem M7, .223 was outa gas, so we waited, Jeff kept calling. I get real impatient when I couldn't really see where this 'yote was, finally I got up and walked over to it. We found the blood and tracks and followed it maybe 200 yds, down to a small sandy wash, a few yards down the wash and up the other side, there is was, still alive! a few more shots from the .25-20 finally put it out of its pain.

I hate it when that happens.

Turns out, Jeff saw at least 2 more yotes on his side. Including one that was slinking thru the bushes and took off only when I got up to search for my 'yote. Had I been more patient, we mighta gotten one more.

That was the only 'yote for our team that day.

The club hunt was close,  I thing PVC won it, but  one 'yote was disputed.
