Bill Poole's Second Coyote

Back in August, Me and Jeff were out bear hunting up east of Winslow somewhere, wait a minute, I've got it right here...~ 34° 17' N, 109° 52' W, aren't GPS's great?!?

Actually we were hunting bear further south east from there when we got bored and on the way home made a few stops to call.

At the first stand, Jeff called on in and missed at just a few yards.

At the second stand, maybe a mile away, he called for a while when Billy, who was with me announced he had to pee, so I told him to water a bush, he picked one about 10 feet away as soon as he got back and got settled (this went on while jeff was maybe 30 yards to my left calling just out of sight) anyway, I notice a shape beyond where Jeff was calling that hadn't been there before. It was a 'yote that had come in and was staring at the movement, in my perfect view, I didn't understand why Jeff had not shot it. Since I could safely shoot without aiming at Jeff, I did. 'Yote flipped over and flopped around a little.

Jeff said that he had seen it come in and it stopped behind a bush just beyond where he could see it.

Since we had been hunting bear that weekend, I had a .300 Win Mag, probably overkill for bear, definately overkill for coyote!

The 'yote had porcupine quills all over its mouth.
